At the core of my therapeutic approach is an emphasis on building a warm, safe and empathic relationship. From the first counselling session I aim to cultivate an environment that welcomes honesty, genuineness, warmth (and at times, humour!). Not only do these qualities enhance the joy and richness of therapy, but they are also the basis for growth and change.

In our work, I will be dedicated to helping you identify your strengths, resources and resilience, as well shifting the life-long habits, patterns and worn-out cycles that keep you feeling frustrated and stuck.

Your story, your pain, and your collection of struggles are unique to you. There is no one-size fits all approach to therapy. As we work together, our approach will adapt to suit your individual needs.

We will spend time exploring what you are experiencing and why. We will map out changes that improve your life in ways that stick. Together, we will help you create the type of life you want to live.

In a session of therapy with me, I will:

  • Listen with gentle curiosity and non-judgment

  • Help you cultivate self-awareness as a first step towards change.

  • Gently encourage your own questions and openness so that we can develop fresh perspectives on what’s happening in your life

  • Introduce practical tasks and skill-building to help you experiment with new ways of being and living your life

  • Encourage in-session practice of relaxation skills, therapeutic techniques and role-plays to help you experience their benefits in the moment.

  • Explore your strengths and resources, using a solution-focussed perspective. I’ll help you reflect on ways you’re already coping with adversity and build on these abilities, rather than telling you how to ‘fix’ the challenges you’re facing

  • Provide suggestions of how to continue building skills between therapy sessions. This may include small homework tasks, reading well-researched books or listening to podcasts that complement our work

  • Explore the broader context of presenting issues, where helpful (eg childhood experiences, family relationships, cross-cultural backgrounds, etc) in order to understand your story as a rich, complex picture

  • Honour your individual preferences and interests, and welcome feedback about what works for you in therapy, and what needs to change

  • Encourage you to question narratives, habits and core beliefs that no longer serve you

  • Enjoy collaborating with you to identify realistic and practical steps towards healthier lifestyles.

I believe that each individual is the expert in the own life experiences. You bring the expertise on you, I’ll bring the expertise on mental health. Our ongoing collaboration will be at the heart of our work together.
